Big weekend coming up! I'll be in Toronto to attend the Toronto Winter Comic Con. It should be a good show; the Hobbystar people have always been good to me and Toronto is a great town.
I will have prints! I am bringing along my Archie Snow print, and a brand-new one:
If you would like me to put one aside for you, contact me as always at kelly at kelly tindall dot com.
I'm coming into town a few days early; I will be in attendance at the class taught by the monstrous and awesome Guy Davis on February 27th. The man is a genuine comic-book rock star and I cannot wait to see him again.
Be well, everyone.
BioShock Big Daddies, etc.
"What is the difference between a man and a parasite? A man builds. A parasite asks 'Where is my share?'"
Been obsessing over the Art Deco-inspired videogame BioShock 2 lately. Lots of interesting design work went into this this game; I particularly fancy the French-influenced diving suits on the villainous Big Daddies.
Go see more of this stuff at the great Dark Roasted Blends.
The drawings above were done in inkwash, finished with a mapping point, and coloured digitally.

Interview at The Fabler; first SQUEAK! preview
I did an interview for the Calgary-based blog The Fabler. Click here to check it out. There's a two-page preview of Squeak! (featuring a brown snake) and another page from the new Archie Snow adventure.
It was a lot of fun. I love phone interviews, you can ink at the same time.
Be nice to each other, everyone.

UP!
We re-watched Up the other night.
I had forgotten how much fun a Pixar character can be; Carl is all squares with a big bulbous Muppet nose. Even though the movie is riddled with plot holes, it's still a hugely fun cartoon and I'm glad I own a copy of it. Thanks, mom.
Tons more stuff on the way. The worst part about making a book is that you can't show people what you're doing until it's published.

SNAKEPIT, Stephin Merrit, SQUEAK, Twitter
Here is a preview of the first part of "Archie Snow: Snakepit". You'll be able to read it in Proof #26, which should be out in a few weeks. The final product will be twelve pages in total, four pages in each issue.
The story is easily the weirdest thing I've done yet, I can't wait for you to read it. My Calgary friends might recognize the location.

In other news, I'm getting close to finishing the art for Squeak!:Werewolf!, which is shaping up very nicely. I will post some art from it in a few days. Alex and I are very excited about it, I think it'll be pretty special.
My wife and I are going to see The Magnetic Fields twice in the next week... Once in Montreal (their first show here!) and once in Toronto (with our friend R. Hiro). I found out this morning that a documentary called Strange Powers is being made about Fields frontman Stephin Merritt. I love Merritt immensely and the Fields are my favorite band, so I'm pretty stoked about the next couple of days.
Also! I am on Twitter now. Click here to check me out.

Mobsters real quick

Hey,
Man, busy around here these days. I'm nearly done the first chapter of "Snakepit", the latest Archie Snow adventure, for Proof #26 and I'm in the home stretch of Squeak!: Werewolf!. I'll post previews of them both soon enough.
For now, here's a quick drawing of cool middle-aged mobster faces. My girl and I watched Dead Reckoning, a Humphrey Bogart film noir, and it got me thinking about how most comic-book characters look like Bruce Wayne and how almost nobody in real life does.
You haven't heard of Jasper, but she makes the absolute best mini-comics I've ever read. Her first major work, Crabs in My Room, was the indie smash of the Montreal Expozine and now I see she has a blog. Go bug her for a copy of her comics; you will not be disappointed. (Thanks to Kim Belair for the link.)

Happy birthday to the self
MCC wrapup, old-and-new
The Montreal Comic Con this past weekend was another big success. Montreal fans are the best, they never fail to come up with peculiar things to keep me busy. I will get some pictures online this weekend after I finish up some deadlines... Some personal favorites include Grimlock devouring Michael Bay, and Galactus devouring the earth.
Some old-but-new stuff here... I'm sifting through work I've done in the last year or two, and I found this group of expressions I did for The Mask. I am a huge fan of The Mask. I discovered the comic after the movie came out in 1994 (?!) and it blew my doors off. Great writing from John Arcudi (who is writing BPRD over at Dark Horse, which is my absolute favorite book right now) and stupendously hilarious art from Doug Mahnke. The book ran a couple of mini-series past its sell-by date but The Mask, The Mask Returns, and The Mask Strikes Again! are classics, I recommend them vociferously.
The reason I have a cluster of Mask expressions is simple: I would love to do a Mask mini-series. It's on my to-do list and I really hope that I'll get a chance to re-introduce the character to a new generation. Got me hooked on comics and also taught me, "The world of man is not this world, the world of man is the human consciousness, and is therefore infinite," which is great to pull out if you want to sound like a five-dollar man in a two-dollar room.

If anyone happens to have any copies of Walter: Campaign of Terror (a four-issue spinoff of the original Mask series), could you send me a message? I haven't read it and I cannot find it around town.
I also found this adorable, half-finished devil girl. I might have started it for a Hellboy jam some years ago? Regardless, I gave her a spit-shine and here she is.

More after the weekend. Cheers!

Montreal Comic Con!
Here are a few sketches I drew today to loosen up for the con tomorrow. It'll be at Place Bonaventure and I believe it opens at eleven (?). Should be a lot of fun, come say 'hi.'

If anyone is interested in any of these drawings (and I have any left after the show) you can always email me at: kelly at kelly tindall dot com
All inquiries are welcome and appreciated.

November babies, Montreal Comic Con
Apologies all around for my radio silence. Working very steadily on a brand-new project that I hope to get off the ground early next year. I have not decided if it will be inkwash or watercolour paint... So, I have been practicing steadily with both to see what I can see.
Poison Ivy:
Hellboy:
And Batman, a present for my friend Quinton who works on the new show FlashForward. He is a top man. It's his birthday today, actually.
I will be a guest of The Montreal Comic Con this coming weekend. Do come around and say 'hello', I will have much to sell and I will be excellent company.
